Three Western Australians started their new year in style by claiming a share in the $30 million Saturday Lotto Megadraw.
Two of the winning families, who purchased their tickets in the Great Southern region, have already made their way to Lotterywest Head Office today to claim their $1.4 million prize.
A local family from Albany who purchased their ticket from Clark’s Newsagency in Albany were overcome with emotion.
"We cried when we realised we had won," the winners said.
"It is such a relief. We didn’t realise how exhausted we were from working so hard for so many years and struggling to get ahead financially."
With a strong focus on humanitarian work, the family plan to help as many people as they can with their win.
"We want to share this winning feeling and make a real difference to other people’s lives," the winners said.
Owner of Clark’s Newsagency, Gregory Hopkins, could not be happier that the winning ticket sold from his outlet went to a local family.
"We are thrilled that a local family has taken a share in the Megadraw," Mr Hopkins said.
The last time Mr Hopkin’s outlet sold a Division 1 ticket was December 2012, when they sold two winning tickets within the month.
The second Division 1 winning ticket was sold at Morrison’s News and Photographic in Denmark.
The working family from Perth purchased the family ticket whilst on holiday.
"We had to double and triple check the ticket," the family said.
"We are still in total disbelief we have won, even sitting here in the Winners Room, it hasn’t quite sunk in.
"The winnings will be shared amongst the whole family and will go towards paying off their debts, their own business and helping set up the children.
"We haven’t been on a holiday for over five years," the family said.
"It might be time to plan a family holiday as well to celebrate a milestone birthday happening this year."
Lotterywest is still waiting to hear from our third Division 1 Megadraw winner who purchased their ticket from The Lucky Charm Newsagency Willetton.
