A Balga teenager charged with grievous bodily harm over the alleged bashing of a 16-year-old boy who later died has indicated he will plead not guilty to any charges.

The 16-year-old appeared in Perth Children's Court this morning where a lawyer said the teenager intended on maintaining a plea of not guilty even if the charge against him is upgraded

The teenager is charged over the alleged assault of a Duncraig teenager at a bush reserve in Balga on December 22.

The Duncraig teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, later died in hospital.

Three other teenagers have also been charged over the alleged bashing and are due to face court later this month.

The 16-year-old who appeared in court this morning will face court on the same day.

All four have been remanded in custody.
