A 40-year-old Hilton man is due to appear in court today over a string of offences, including a crash in which detectives were injured.
The man was arrested in Paget Street, Hilton, at 9.30 last night after a police pursuit.
Police allege the man stole a Kia Pregio panel van from a liquor store in Doubleview on New Year's Eve.
The van was being loaded at the time and the keys were in the ignition.
"Between December 31 and January 2 he [allegedly] stole a set of number plates from a car yard in Melville and put them on the Kia Pregio," police said.
"At 3.50pm on January 3 in Fancote Street, Beeliar, he [allegedly] threatened a 49-year-old man with a cricket bat and stole his Chrysler Sebring vehicle, abandoning the Kia Pregio at that scene.
"At 7.50pm he [allegedly] jumped into the driver’s seat of a Toyota Landcruiser while the male driver was in the shops on Archibald Street, Willagee."
A female passenger in the Landcruiser managed to escape the car.
Police allege the man ran to another car when he was unable to start the Landcruiser.
"He [allegedly] ran towards a 45-year-old Willagee woman who was seated in her Subaru Forrester," police said.
"He was wielding a soft drink bottle above his head.
"She closed her door but he [allegedly] opened it, dragged her out by the arm and demanded her keys [before driving away]."
Police saw the stolen Subaru at 9.20pm yesterday.
The car was chased through various suburbs until it hit a stationary police vehicle in Paget Street, police said.
It is alleged that the man was arrested after running from the car.
"Two detectives in the police vehicle suffered neck soreness as a result of the crash," police said.
The man has been charged with eight offences including stealing a motor vehicle, stealing, armed robbery, reckless driving (to escape capture) and no authority to drive.
He is expected to appear in Perth Magistrate's Court this morning.
