Thieves walked away empty-handed after they used earthmoving equipment to ram an automatic teller machine in Albany this morning.
Police were called to Centro Albany in Milpara just before 4am after an ATM alarm was activated.
A spokesman said the alarm had activated about 10 to 15 minutes before the call came in.
“An attending security guard located a hole in the wall where an ATM is positioned,” he said.
“It appears a skid-steer was used to damage the wall, however initial information is that the ATM has not been taken.”
The vehicle, believed to have been stolen from the local council depot, was found nearby.
Albany detectives and forensic officers are at the scene.
In August, thieves who appeared to be targeting an ATM drove a stolen bulldozer into the side of Bayonet Head Shopping Centre in Albany.
The machine was not taken and the thieves did not get away with any cash.
A special team was formed to deal with the latest string of ATM attacks last week after police attended two explosions at shopping centres in Perth’s south.
The explosions brought the total attacks since October to 13.
