Girl, 9, in ICU after incident at swim comp

A nine-year-old girl is in the intensive care unit at Princess Margaret Hospital after an incident at a country swimming pool last night.

A police spokesman said officers were called to Harvey Swimming Pool in the South West regarding an emergency situation at a swimming meet in the town pool in Hinge Road.

"The information we were given was that a young girl was being pulled out of the pool, and it was not known how long she had been under water," the spokesman said.

"St John Ambulance attended the scene and the 9-year-old girl, who is from Australind, was taken to Harvey Hospital."

Police attended and met the RAC Rescue Helicopter at an oval opposite the hospital.

The girl was flown to Princess Margaret Hospital, where she remains in the Intensive Care Unit today.
