Gen Z takes editor reins for a day

Your newspaper will look slightly different tomorrow.

The West Australian has invited a dozen members of Generation Z to become editors for a day to celebrate WA Children's Week.

Born between 1995 and 2009, Generation Z is predicted to be one of the most technologically aware, globally connected and best-educated age groups ever.

Our 12 panellists were selected after they submitted opinion pieces, letters and cartoons on issues important to them.

Tomorrow, The West's regular letter writers and columnists will take a break.

Instead, the letters page and opinion pieces will be written by the decision-makers and workforce of tomorrow.

GEN Z IS ALWAYS CONNECTED

The students, ranging in age from 11 to 17, will join senior editors at news conferences on Sunday and help them decide what stories will be placed and where in the paper.

They will also meet reporters. Our stand-in editors should provide readers with an intriguing insight into the way Generation Z views the world and how they think it should be reflected in the media.
