A South West man has been charged and his car impounded after a police chase which ended when his car became bogged last night.

Dunsborough Police chased the Holden Commodore station wagon at about 10.30pm after the driver failed to stop when police saw the driver acting suspiciously in Vasse.

Police said the 10km chase was aborted for safety reasons but police later came across the car which was partly bogged on the roadside verge.

Police say the driver locked himself in the car and tried to reverse but officers smashed the driver's window and switched the engine off before arresting the man.

The 29-year-old driver from Busselton was charged with reckless driving, failing to stop and excess 0.08. He was also disqualified from driving and his car will be impounded for 28 days.
