A man who handed himself into police yesterday over an alleged armed robbery almost two decades ago has made a brief appearance in court.

Barry Matt Stuart, who was 30 at the time of the alleged robbery, appeared in Perth Magistrate's Court this morning charged with armed robbery.

Police say Mr Stuart, who is now 49, went to Cannington police station yesterday and asked to speak to detectives about a 1994 pharmacy robbery.

It is alleged the pharmacy on Albany Highway was robbed by a man with a firearm who demanded cash and drugs from a staff member.

Mr Stuart did not apply for bail and has been remanded in custody to appear in the Stirling Gardens Magistrate's Court on February 6.
