Update, 5.25pm: A male has died after he was struck by a car in a hit and run incident in Waikiki this morning.

Police believe the male person, understood to be a 17-year-old boy, was standing or walking on Ennis Avenue, near Safety Bay Road and Willmott Drive, about 4.30am with he was hit.

The vehicle left the scene and the police major crash squad are calling for witnesses to the incident.

Ennis Avenue northbound remains closed this evening between Safety Bay Road and Willmott Drive and motorists are advised to use alternate routes.

The police Major Crash unit is investigating the death. Those with information are urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

In June, a 69-year-old man was killed at Ennis Avenue and Willmott Drive intersection when the car he was driving collided with another vehicle.

A four-car crash at the junction in August prompted an online petition to install lights at the intersection that attracted over 600 signatures.
