Police are investigating the death of a 17-year-old female in a remote community east of Laverton yesterday afternoon.

The matter is being investigated by Major Crime Squad and Kalgoorlie Detectives.

Police officers are at the small, remote indigenous community, about 1000km east of Perth and located on the edge of the Great Victoria Desert.

A 17-year-old male is helping police with their inquiries.

Police are also investigating an assault on the 17-year-old boy, which they believe occurred
after the death of the female.

He is currently being medically assessed by the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
