Police party bus deployed

The so-called police party bus was deployed for the first time last night as officers responded to neighbour complaints regarding a Beechboro party.

Neighbours told police about 50 people had gathered in the street near Altone Road and Thorburn Avenue and there were reports of shouting and arguing.

The customised police transport vehicle, which was launched on Friday, was sent to the party with uniformed and specialist officers.

Fifteen juveniles were detained, one was arrested in relation to an outstanding Bench warrant, and two were arrested for disorderly conduct.

All the juveniles were deemed to be at risk given the time of night, the location and circumstances surrounding their detention. The revellers were transported to Midland Police Station where arrangements were made for adults to be contacted.

The police truck can detain up to 14 people in multiple or individual cells as officers continue to disperse large crowds at events that have spiralled out of control.

Police said most of the revellers were juveniles aged between 12 and 16.
