Police Commissioner Karl O’Callaghan says he will continue to support his son despite a relapse causing him to head back to prison this evening.

The Commissioner’s son Russell has been living with his family since he was released in May on parole after serving eight months in jail following a clandestine drug lab explosion.

Since Russell’s release in May today’s positive drug test was his first.

Mr O’Callaghan said he did not view the test result as a failure but rather as a stumbling block.

He said he gave his son a hug before delivering him to police, who then took him to Casuarina Prison.

It is unclear whether the 31-year-old will serve the remaining eights months of his initial sentence.
