State Opposition Leader Mark McGowan has pledged to build a new $45 million train station at Atwell if Labor wins power at next year's State election.

The station would be built on the Mandurah line in between the north and south lanes of the Kwinana in between the Russell and Gibbs road exits.

Mr McGowan said train users needed a new station at Atwell.

"We will also proceed with a new park and ride facility with an initial capacity of about 900 cars," he said.

Mr McGowan said Labor would also make appropriate provisions for more carriages to service the station in the future.

The new station would help relieve pressure at the Cockburn Central station, where the car park is full by 7.11am on average on weekdays, the earliest for any station in the Perth suburban rail network.
