The red carpet is about to be rolled out for tonight's WA Fashion Awards and Perth's style elite are busy prepping and preening in anticipation.
AAA caught up with Perth Fashion Festival director Mariella Harvey-Hanrahan, along with the nominees for most innovative designer, at Malt Supper Club - the venue for the after party - to find out how they are preparing for WA's "fashion Oscars".
Harvey-Hanrahan said her preparation would ensure the focus was placed on local designers. "It is about celebrating the creativity of these guys so I'm going to go to a lot of effort," she said. "We're showing that innovation is alive and well in WA."
She wouldn't disclose the designer she will be wearing on the night, but hinted it would be a mix of labels as it had proved too hard to pick just one.
One Fell Swoop designers Daniel Romanin and Nina Ergic, Alvin Fernandez from Ae'lkemi and Flannel's Kristy Lawrence are all up for the prestigious innovative designer title.
Romanin said he was looking forward to the awards and having a small break from working on the label's next range.
"It's nice to have that night where you can just let your hair down for a little bit," he said.
As for what he will be wearing, "He's waiting to see what I am wearing so he can match me," said Ergic, adding she would be dressed by boutique Dilettante. For the designers, the awards are the culmination of 12 months of hard work.
Fernandez, who has just had his label picked up by a US buyer, championed the work of his fellow nominees.
"I think everyone is so strong in their individual right because we all do different things," Fernandez said. "It's nice to celebrate the diversity that we have in WA."
Once all the gongs have been handed out tonight, come tomorrow morning it will be back to work as usual for designers and organisers.
"I don't know that there is any time to unwind," Harvey-Hanrahan laughed.
"We'll be straight back into the calendar for the Perth Fashion Festival 2012."
