Kidding around with Gary

Gary the Goat and comedian owner Jimbo Bazoobi performed to a sell-out crowd in Port Hedland last week.

It's not everyday a North West Telegraph interview gets interrupted because the interviewee's pet goat has roamed into an unsuspecting hotel guest's room and begun eating their teabags.

But then again, viral sensation Gary the Goat and his comedian owner Jimbo Bazoobi are anything but ordinary.

After buying Gary at a Gingin pub for a case of beer three years ago, Jimbo has travelled the country with his furry mate doing stand-up comedy gigs in country towns.

The duo performed to sold-out crowds in Broome, Port Hedland, Pardoo and Karratha last week.

"He (Gary) has gone off on the net recently - from 20,000 likes to almost a million in the last few months," Jimbo said.

"There are videos of Gary on YouTube with five million views, it's gone nuts."

Jimbo said he had been doing stand-up comedy for 11 years, but had only recently started selling out shows.

"I used to get kicked out of most comedy venues because I was too rude. That's why I went country ... regional towns are a bit looser," he said.

"Gary doesn't do anything (at the shows), it's not like he juggles or plays the guitar. He just wanders around, steals chips, does a s… and falls asleep."

Since arriving in WA, Gary has flown over Horizontal Falls in an airplane and taken a boat ride off the coast of Port Hedland.

Ever the rebel, he has also had a previous run-in with the law, being arrested in Sydney in 2012 for unlawful destruction of vegetation, or "eating grass" as Jimbo called it.

The court case received international media attention and was eventually dismissed by a judge.

"Gary doesn't complain, he sleeps anywhere, eats anything and rolls with whatever happens," Jimbo said.

"He likes cigarette butts and corn chips, and has a sweet tooth. We've all got our bad habits."
