Perth Wildcat tamed by stunning bride
At more than 2m tall, Tom Jervis is a force to be reckoned with on the basketball court.
But the Perth Wildcats player admits he was brought to tears when he married long- time love Jazze McNeill last week.
The lovebirds tied the knot at St Joseph’s Subiaco on a sunny Friday afternoon, cementing their three- year romance with a ceremony that drew laughter from the guests as the priest quizzed them on the couple’s past.
With McNeill keeping much of the plans a secret from her beau, Jervis toldAAA Weekend many details of the day took him by surprise — the ultimate being the moment he first caught a glimpse of his bride in her custom Steven Khalil wedding gown.
“Seeing Jazze for the first time in her dress just blew me away,” Jervis, 28, laughed. “I was a sook pretty much from when the music first came on. Everything was an absolute head spin.”
The groom was again shocked when he and McNeill, 23, first entered the reception at Mount Eliza House in Kings Park, which was styled by White Events’ Lara White as a cocktail setting with lots of greenery and copper accents.
The stand-up format meant the pair could get the formalities out of the way and start celebrating sooner, with McNeill revealing she and her groom partied until after 1am with many of his Wildcats teammates.
“People told us to savour every moment because you wake up the next day and you realise how quickly it went,” the lawyer explained.
“But by the time we left, I was ready to go. It was the best night but I was exhausted. Whereas if I had left at 11pm, the usual time when the bride and groom head off, I probably would have thought it was over way too quickly.”
Asked whether they felt different now they were married, Jervis said being a husband was definitely a new experience.
“I can’t explain it but I do feel different,” he said.
“We are still on such a massive high from the day, all the special feelings are still surrounding us.”
The newlyweds opted to delay their honeymoon until next year as McNeill is about to change law firms and Jervis is back to training.
McNeill is also gearing up to participate in the Dogs’ Refuge Home’s 30 for 30 Jog on June 20, where she will pound the pavement over 30km to help raise money for homeless hounds.
