Bud Light has come under fire for 'endorsing rape' in a new marketing campaign.

In a continuation of its ‘Up for Whatever’ promotion, the American beer brand stamped some bottles with the slogan: "The perfect beer for removing ‘no’ from your vocabulary for the night."

The company was quickly scolded on social media, with users criticising the campaign for promoting a rape culture.

The company's vice president, Alexander Lambrecht, issued a statement on Tuesday apologising for the incident. The brewery has since pulled the bottles from shelves.

He admitted the company had "missed the mark."

“This grossly shortsighted marketing tactic shows an epic lack of understanding of the dangers associated with excessive alcohol consumption, such as sexual assault and drunk driving,” he wrote.

“We need responsible companies to help us tackle these serious public health and safety problems, not encourage them."

Mr Lambrecht confirmed the tagline will not be used on any more bottles.
