Woman drowns fishing in Albany

An 18-year-old Albany woman drowned while she was fishing with her boyfriend this morning.

Emergency services were called to Casey’s Beach, east of Albany, just before 11am.

Police said the woman slipped off the rocks and into the water.

The woman's boyfriend tried to pull her to safety but the young man’s attempts to save his girlfriend failed.

When Volunteer Marine Rescue Services arrived at the scene the woman had died.

It is believed the woman’s parents were also called to the scene.

The woman is the third person to die fishing near Albany in just over a week.

Two fishermen were reported to be struggling in the water at Salmon Holes on April 18.

Rescue crews found one man dead and conducted an extensive land, air and sea search for the second person.

Authorities were unable to find the second man, believed to be from China but living in Perth, despite several days of searching.
