Brothers charged over Rockingham assault

A 23-year-old man is lucky to have escaped serious injury when he was allegedly set upon by two brothers as he attempted to walk home early on Sunday morning.

The victim was walking along Chelmsford Avenue in Rockingham about 2am when he was confronted by the men, aged 32 and 23.

It is alleged the duo punched him and once he had fallen to the ground, they kicked his head.

They allegedly stole his mobile phone, watch and keys before running from the area.

The 23-year-old alleged victim sought refuge in a nearby home where an ambulance was called.

He was treated by paramedics before again trying to make his way home.

As he approached his doorstep, the younger brother yelled abuse at his alleged victim from a park across the road.

The victim’s father went out and spoke to the accused in an attempt to get his son’s belongings back.

The offender tried to leave but was apprehended by the father who waited with him until he was picked up by the accused’s mother.

Rockingham detectives arrested the brothers a few hours later and charged them both with aggravated robbery.

The younger brother was also charged with possessing cannabis and will appear in Rockingham Magistrate’s Court on May 18.

The older brother appeared in court yesterday.

Police are still after witnesses to the incidents and ask anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
