Sport of kings, but prince welcome

It's affectionately referred to as the sport of kings but there's speculation that Prince Harry might appear at Polo in the Valley today.

Prince Harry is visiting WA as part of his month-long secondment with the Australian Army and many are hoping the Prince, a keen polo player, will turn up to the event at Duncraig Stud in the Swan Valley.

Australian player Rob Archibald is accustomed to a royal audience and isn't fazed at the prospect of VIPs watching him play.

"It's nice knowing they're there and enjoying the polo, but it doesn't make any difference to your performance," he said.

Named as one of polo's "10 Hottest Horsemen" by Vanity Fair magazine and ranked in the top 100 players, Archibald, who is married to racing heiress Francesca Cumani, says Prince Harry is a skilled player.

"I have played alongside him once or twice," Archibald said.

"He's a very good player considering the amount of time he gets to play. He's a very accomplished horseman."

Polo in the Valley has raised more than $500,000 for charity in six years. This year, event owner Peter Prendiville will donate to Youth Focus.

"We have a desire to support young people by way of education, health and wellbeing," Mr Prendiville said.
