Stars reunite for new music

J *ay Z *, *Beyonce *, Daft Punk, *Rihanna *, *Jack White *and *Madonna *have gone into business together to launch Tidal, the world's first artist-owned music streaming service.

Jay Z, who bought the Swedish high-quality audio-streaming service this year, has recruited a raft of music's superstars to help him relaunch Tidal at event in New York yesterday.


  • Alicia Keys *, *Kanye West *, *Nicki Minaj *, *Usher *, *Calvin Harris *, Coldplay's *Chris Martin *and members of Arcade Fire have also signed on as new owners of the platform.

The A-list artists appeared on stage together for the live streamed event.

Rihanna and Beyonce were glowing when putting pen to paper, and a cheeky Madonna lifted her leg on the table, while dance act Daft Punk appeared in their trademark helmets.

Earlier, Jay Z hinted at the announcement on Twitter with a *Bob Dylan *-inspired line: "The Tides They Are-A Changing."

The rapper also changed his Twitter profile picture to a

square of light-blue, the colour of Tidal, while many of the signed-on stars did the same to show support.

"The love of music is louder than words," tweeted both Madonna and Kanye.

Soul singer Keys * *spoke at the event, describing Tidal as "the first ever, artist-owned, global music and entertainment platform. Today we announce the launch of Tidal.

"We will deliver exclusive experiences that will be found nowhere else," she said.

"We want to create a better service and a better experience for both fans and artists.

"Our mission goes beyond commerce, beyond technology - our intent is to preserve music's importance in our lives."

In Australia, Tidal costs $11.99 a month for standard sound quality and $23.99 for high-fidelity sound quality. In comparison, Spotify's basic plan will set you back $6.99, while the ad-supported option is free.
