Winslet embroiled in environmental row

Actress Kate Winslet is facing a battle with a British environmental group over plans to renovate her home in England.

Winslet reportedly wants to build a wall in the garden of her seaside property in West Sussex to protect against high tides but the proposal has been opposed by officials at Natural England.

Staff at the group have called on planning bosses at Chichester District Council to reject Winslet's application, insisting the wall's construction will cause the "direct loss" of rare trees, birds and wetlands.

Winslet bought the luxury residence for STG3.3 million ($A6.39 million) in 2013 and has previously put through applications for extensive renovations including an underground swimming pool, garage and pool house.
