Mitch and Jess step up for charity

Like many parents, *Mitchell Johnson *and *Jessica Bratich- Johnson *would do anything to protect the health of their daughter.

The fast bowler and his accessories- designer wife had daughter *Rubika Anne * two years ago and were smitten from the moment they met her.

So when they heard the heartbreaking story of how prominent *Perth * couple *Rick * and *Emily Parish *lost their young son *Elliot * to cancer in 2011, the tale resonated with them and they wanted to know how they could help.

With Johnson back in *WA *for Australia's Cricket World Cup game against Afghanistan yesterday, the pair have announced they are the newest ambassadors for the Parish family's charity, the *Telethon *Adventurers, which aims to raise money to help fund research to cure childhood cancer.

Bratich-Johnson told _AAA _she was touched when she heard Emily speak about her son at a fundraising event and went straight home to talk to her husband about joining the Adventurers.

"It's such an important cause and I think about it even more now we have a child because it hits you harder," she explained.

"We know people with children suffering so anything we can do to help find a cure, we are more than happy to help out."

The not-for-profit organisation is known for sending its ambassadors on far-flung challenges, from treks on the Great Wall of China to gruelling mountain climbs, and Johnson said he was excited to embark on his own adventure in the future to raise money for the cause.

"I'd love to get out there, that's my kind of thing," he said. "When the time is right I will definitely take the chance to get out there and join a challenge. Jess was only talking about it the other day, saying she was keen to do something too."

Rick, a former SAS soldier, said he was thrilled Johnson and Bratich-Johnson had come on board with the charity.

"The great thing for anyone who gets involved with the Adventurers is that they get to tick something off their bucket list, something they normally wouldn't get to do," he said.

In addition to embarking on an adventure, Bratich-Johnson has already designed a range of scarves and angel-wing rings to help raise funds for the charity and she and Johnson will also soon auction a cricket shirt on their blog fashionsportlifestyle.com.
