Kylie's names her Eurovision pick

Pop princess Kylie Minogue has backed Perth’s Samantha Jade as the prefect singer to represent Australia at this year’s Eurovision song contest.

Speaking to The West Australian ahead of her Perth Arena show next week, Minogue, who was a fan favourite to take on the converted role, ruled herself out of contention as Australia’s first representative at the annual contest.

But when asked who should represent Australia she backed Jade, who played her in Never Tear Us Apart — the INXS biopic mini-series broadcasted last year.

Australia’s representative for its guest appearance at the contest will be announced early tomorrow with Jade, Jessica Mauboy, Guy Sebastian and Delta Goodrem considered the front runners.

“I was asked about doing it,” Minogue said. “And I couldn’t help but notice the tidal wave of excitement.

“But no, I won’t be doing it. But I will definitely be watching, like the rest of the nation, and hope we do well.

“But surely we are well suited to this, I mean c’mon we had prawns on bicycles at the (Sydney) Olympics (closing ceremony), we can do this — and wouldn’t it be amazing if we won.”

It is understood the major record labels were asked to deliver their best artist-and-song package in a short tender-type process with SBS making the final decision on the candidate, which will be announced at the Sydney Opera House tomorrow morning.
