WA woman run over in Melbourne

A West Australian woman was taken to hospital after being hit by a car in Melbourne this morning.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman said the 18-year-old was struck by the car while she crossed Lygon Street at the corner of Blyth Street in Brunswick East with a red signal about 8.30am.

The driver of the car stopped to help the woman until ambulance and police officers arrived.

The West Australian woman was taken to Royal Melbourne Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

She is expected to be issued with an infringement notice for failing to obey the red pedestrian signal.
