'Rigged': Viewers slam The Voice after Chris Sebastian's shock win

Viewers have taken to social media to share their thoughts on Chris Sebastian taking out the crown on The Voice Australia 2020 last night, and plenty don’t seem happy with the final results.

Chris walked away with $100,000 in prize money and a recording contract with EMI Recorded Music Australia after beating Stellar Perry, Siala Robson, and Johnny Manuel in the grand finale.

The win came as a shock to many as Chris hadn’t been the favourite going into the final episode of the Channel Nine show.

And given his brother Guy Sebastian was also on the show as a coach, it didn’t take long for calls of ‘rigged’ and ‘unfair’ to echo across social media.

“Didn’t see that coming at all,” one viewer posted on Facebook after the final results were revealed.

“It was totally rigged, never watching this again,” another person wrote.

“I stopped watching last week when I found out Chris was in Finals. Foregone conclusion he would win due to his connection,” was another response.

Plenty of others however defended Chris, applauding the singer for his win.

“Well done Chris Sebastian, an amazing artist in your own right,” one person wrote.

“He deserved it, and to all the people saying he only won because of his brother.... get a life he has an amazing voice,” another fan wrote.

While a third wrote: “Well done Chris you deserved to win.”

According to Channel Nine, the final vote was exceptionally close, with less than 0.5% separating first and second place.

Chris sang Linkin Park's Numb for his solo performance, handing the win to his coach Kelly Rowland. His winner's single 'Bed for 2' is out now.

Before taking the crown, Chris had admitted he struggled with his own identity, especially being in his famous brother Guy’s shadow.

“I’ve been doing it [music] a long time and I’ve tried to prove myself as much as I can and for the most part I’ve always been the brother and that’s kind of sucked. I’d be lying if I said it didn’t,” he told news.com.au last week.
