The Traitors fans are convinced Linda and Minah made a massive mistake as they invited Anna to join their ranks.

The pair — who are both Traitors in the BBC show — were given the chance to recruit a third member after their co-conspirator Armani was banished from the castle. They picked Anna, and sent a letter asking her to join their little group in the turret.

They explained in their note that they had selected Anna as she was "a strong independent woman", and viewers reckon that it was a serious slip-up as it points to the Traitors being women themselves.

Minah and Linda were told in Wednesday's show that they could choose someone to recruit, and pondered whether to ask Freddie, Fozia or Anna. The episode on Thursday, 9 January revealed they had picked Anna.

However, she decided to turn it down, explaining: "I felt like this was going to happen. They are using this to scapegoat me. They are going to throw me under the bus and then I am going to have to stand up there and tell everyone I am a Traitor."

"If I am going to leave the competition, I want to leave it my way," she said in a piece to camera, wiping away tears.

Many fans think the damage was done, saying that Minah and Linda had dropped a big hint about who they are and may now be in danger themselves.

One wrote on X: "Traitors have essentially just revealed themselves as women… highly unlikely any of the male competitors would’ve written down 'strong independent woman' in that context. Silly!"

Another fan insisted it was a "HUGE clue", and someone else remarked: "This was a surprisingly bad decision… them revealing it’s women only Traitors with the 'because you’re a strong independent woman' message… this was the first blunder from Minah’s perfect game."

"Why would you write ‘strong independent woman’ on the recruitment letter?" asked another puzzled fan. "She knows you’re probably all women now. So dumb."

"Surely saying they wanted to recruit her because she’s a 'strong, independent woman' gives it away that the Traitors are women!" agreed somebody else.

However, with Anna keeping her rejected recruitment to herself — and only confiding in Charlotte at the very end of the day — this vital clue might be be lost as swimming instructor from County Wicklow, Ireland faces being murdered overnight.

Elsewhere there were dramatic scenes when Faithful contestant Tyler was banished after a tense roundtable, leaving his friend Livi in floods of tears.

Lisa also caused a stir when she announced to the other contestants that she is a priest.

She spoke up after some of the others questioned why she had made a comment about God, telling them as they sat in the lounge: "I am an ordained Anglican priest."

Asked why she had gone on a show so full of deceit and trickery, she laughed: "What self-respecting murder mystery doesn't have a priest in it?"

The Traitors airs on BBC One on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nights.
