The Sydney suburbs on alert after virus cases grow
A number of Sydney suburbs are on high alert after new coronavirus cases were detected Thursday and Friday.
On Thursday, NSW Health was investigating six locally acquired cases in the city. Five are in the Northern Beaches, and one case is a resident of southwest Sydney.
On Friday, NSW Health reported 10 new Covid cases, taking the Northern Beaches cluster up to 28.
Two of the 10 cases are from Cronulla in Sydney’s southeast, with the Cronulla RSL confirming on its Facebook they had been visited by a positive case on Wednesday.
Authorities hope the spread of a potential cluster in the Northern Beaches has been contained and have issued alerts for people to get tested and self-isolate if they have travelled to certain locations.
The warnings are dotted around Palm Beach, Mona Vale and Avalon, with concern also for Peakhurst in the city’s south. The positive case in south Sydney was a bus driver who transports aircrew to and from their hotels but did attend a sporting event while infectious.
The latest case in the northern beaches has been identified as a musician who performed multiple gigs across Sydney recently, although it is unclear if he was infectious at the time.
