'Devastated': Waleed Aly's on-air tribute after 29-year-old producer's sudden death

The Project co-host Waleed Aly has paid an emotional tribute to his former colleague who died from a cardiac arrest over the weekend.

During Tuesday’s show on Channel 10, Aly announced to viewers producer Carla Bellomarino had died at the age of 29.

“Devastated to say that Carla passed away in the early hours of Saturday after suffering a sudden cardiac arrest,” he began.

“She was a massive part of our team. It's just about impossible to summarise Carla for you.”

Co-host Gorgi Coghlan struggled to hold back tears as Aly described their former colleague.

'She was full of life, she was a go-getter. She was going to dominate the television industry, there was no doubt about that,” Aly continued.

“More importantly, she was hilarious, she was really funny, she was extraordinarily kind.

“It was a genuine pleasure to be around her in every moment.”

Dozens took to social media to pay tribute to Ms Bellomarino, including those she’d worked with in the TV industry.

“I worked with her many years at 9 and she, as you said, was lively, fun and just incredible at what she did. Will be so sadly missed,” The Block judge Shaynna Blaze wrote on Twitter.
