The Ordinary is known for it's affordable and effective skincare, but fans were bereft two years ago when it's cult Salicylic Acid 2% Solution was discontinued.

The wonder serum is back!

It was discontinued in 2020 and has been reformulated for even better results.

It was so popular, there's a waitlist of 400,000 people desperate to get their hands on a bottle of the coveted liquid.

The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2% Solution, $9.60, is ideal for blemish-prone skin as its exfoliating formula removes dead skin cells and oil which clog pores.

It dissipates excess oil and reduces redness.

Salicylic Acid is a lipophilic BHA - that means it can dissolve fat in congested pores.

What the fans said

Reviews for the old formula were incredible, with many begging Deciem, the company behind The Ordinary, to bring it back.

"It was glorious," said one user.

"My skin was blemish free and so smooth."

Another said: "This serum was the best thing since sliced bread."

A third begged: "It really helped my skin like nothing else - please bring it back!"

How to use The Ordinary

When you can get your hands on a bottle, it should be used in the morning and evening.

Either apply a small dot directly to spots for almost instant visible improvement, or apply a small amount over your whole face to maintain clearer skin.

Avoid the eye area and don't use it on sensitive, peeling or compromised skin.

If you're at the end of the 400,000 waitlist, there are interim options to keep your skin happy.

The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2% Masque, $21.90, targets blemishes, textural irregularities, and lack-lustre tone.

It gives your pores a deep cleanse and contains black charcoal and Amazonian clays for a highly absorbent, balancing action for oily and blemish-prone skin.

The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2% Anhydrous Solution, $11.50 was launched in December as a gentler alternative to The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2% Solution.

It exfoliates while decongesting pores, visibly smoothing uneven skin texture and reducing red skin tones.

It has a squalene base that reduces the risk of temporary redness sometimes associated with Salicylic Acid use.
