Terrifying moment couple left dangling mid-air after Adelaide ride malfunctions

An Adelaide couple has had a terrifying experience when a carnival ride lost power, leaving them hanging metres in the air.

Footage filmed by stunned onlookers shows the moment on Saturday night when the ride came to an abrupt halt at Adelaide Fringe Festival over the weekend.

“My god, they’re on the ride. Oh my god!” one woman can be heard saying as she looks up to the trapped pair.

Michael Lewis and his partner Shannon Ross recalled the moment they were left dangling in the air.

“It went around two rotations and on the third rotation there were two big clunks and the ride came to a halt and completely blacked out and sort of just left us hanging there,” Mr Lewis said.

“I was pretty scared actually, I just grabbed hold of my seat and was like this thing better not come undone because it’s a long fall,” Ms Ross said.

After several minutes the ride regained power and completed its cycle.

When the couple disembarked the ride they asked for a full refund but claim they were only offered another ride which they refused.

The ride’s operator has said the ride was given the all clear by safety inspectors and continued to operate.

The operator has said the power cut was due to a faulty generator.

Safe Work SA confirmed they will not be investigating the incident as no one was injured.
