Tennis firebrand Fabio Fognini has taken a not-so-subtle sledge at tennis great Andy Murray following a fiery run-in in 2019.

Fognini is no stranger to controversy and recently took a dig at Nick Kyrgios when he claimed he could see the Aussie getting defaulted like Novak Djokovic at the US Open.

But Fognini also has thrown up some drama on the court, which included an infamous run-in with Murray at the Shanghai Open.

Murray became perturbed when Fognini yelled out when the Scot made a volley at the net for a winner.

The three-time Grand Slam champ claimed Fognini yelled to put him off, which is against the rules.

But when Murray questioned Fognini at the net he denied the attempt to put him off.

Murray argued with the umpire over the indiscretion, but when Fognini entered the conversation Murray told him to “shut up”.

Murray, a popular player on tour, was clearly frustrated with Fognini and the Italian has now opened up on why the pair don’t get along.

Fognini slams Murray as ‘arrogant’ in book

In his recently released book, ‘Warning, my life between the lines’, Fognini claims Murray’s style of play is ‘arrogant’.

“Andy Murray was arrogant since young age,” he said, according to a translation from Tennis TV’s Enrico Maria Riva.

“A guy all lobs and dropshots, tricky shots designed to mock you.”

But Fognini went one step further and claimed the pair ‘despise each other’ on court.

“Murray and I never got along. We are two hotheads and we lose our cool pretty quickly. When we are on court we despise each other”.

Despite a clear dislike for the Scottish champion, Fognini did praise his game claiming he was “an incredible player”.
