Tennis coach, 71, accused of sexually abusing 12-year-old girl

A 71-year-old man has been refused bail after being charged with sexually abusing a schoolgirl he was coaching as they travelled for tennis tournaments across NSW.

The man was arrested at tennis courts on Sydney’s North Shore on Wednesday afternoon following allegations the 12-year-old girl had been sexually abused on several occasions between July and December this year, police said.

Detectives from the Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad commenced an investigation after reports were made she had been abused by a man she knew on several occasions.

The alleged offender is facing a string of charges including 11 counts of intentionally sexually touching a child between 10 and 16, and seven counts of intentionally doing a sexual act with a child.

He was refused bail to appear at Hornsby Local Court on Thursday.
