Ten-year-old signs strict list of rules before getting first mobile phone

A young girl has been made to sign a set of rules by her parents before they handed over her first mobile phone.

Ten-year-old Yasmine, from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, was desperate for an iPhone but her parents wanted to ensure she was willing to be responsible with the device.

After deliberating with the family, they devised a one year contract with 12 rules for Yasmine to adhere to.

The contract states that she is prohibited from taking the phone to school or the bathroom and cannot use it during dinner.

She isn’t allowed to download apps without her parents’ permission and will have to stick to a strict data allowance.

She is also told she must respect religious requirements, avoid using the phone when out with family and to maintain its battery’s life.

Yasmin’s sister Farha who studies at the University of Melbourne, documented the signing of the document with a series of photos on social media which quickly went viral.

One image shows Yasmine smiling as she holds her new phone alongside the completed contract.

Farha revealed to Yahoo News that her sister had embraced the milestone moment in her growing up.

“She told me ‘I feel like I have to be responsible with my life’,” Farha recalled.

Farha said her sister deserved the phone, having previously worked hard through a range of chores around the house.

If Yasmine breaks any of the rules, she will be forced to return the phone to her father.
