Tesla driver taunts police after allegedly crashing rental in 'ridiculous' stunt

A Tesla driver's reckless stunt has been captured on camera, showing the vehicle speeding over a rise and becoming airborne, before crashing into two other vehicles.

Video of the dangerous manoeuvre was shared to social media, with police in Los Angeles reposting the clip in the hopes of identifying the driver.

Los Angeles Police said on March 20 someone who rented a Tesla S-BLM "decided to perform a dangerous stunt".

The car is valued at just under A$150,000 before additional costs.

In the video, the Tesla is seen accelerating up a hill and flying through the air before losing control when the car eventually makes contact with the ground again.

Another clip shows the car had collided with two parked cars and several rubbish bins.

Witness Marc Simard told KTLA he thought a bomb went off when the crash happened.

Another witness shared footage with KTLA of the suspects getting into another Tesla after the crash and driving off.

The incident happened on Baxter Street and Alvarado Street and the Tesla was abandoned at the scene.

Police said there was no description of the driver and detectives would be following up with the renter.

Alleged driver taunts police on TikTok

After the police shared the videos of the crash online, they were inundated with tips mostly about one person.

"We have received over 50 tips and anticipate more due the story going viral. Over 90% of the tips are of the same person who has a TikTok handle of @Dominykas or @durtedom on Twitter. He is considered a person of interest based on the public postings on his account," LAPD's Central Traffic Division wrote on Twitter.

On TikTok, @dominykas shared a video of him in front of a news headline about the Tesla crash and police seeking information about it, with N.W.A's F**k Tha Police playing in the background.

"LAPD didn't like my stunt," he said in the caption on the video.

Police asked people not to send in any further tips about @dominykas.

"We have reached out to him on his social media account. We are asking any witnesses to also come forward," LAPD said on Twitter.

Police said they also received tips about the people who shared the video to social media and said they would be reaching out to those individuals too.

Several people on social media said they wanted the driver to be held accountable for their reckless driving.

"Absolutely ridiculous! Hope he is found and held accountable!" one person said on the police's Instagram post.

Man's Subaru destroyed in stunt

A GoFundMe has been set up for a man whose Subaru was "wrecked" in the crash.

Jordan Hook has received over $13,000 through the GoFundMe in the 24 hours after he launched it, and is hoping to use the money to buy a new car.

"Last night, I woke up to the sound of a jolting crash outside my window a little after midnight. I came out to see a destroyed Tesla rammed into the back of my Subaru," Mr Hook said.

"People were scrambling out of the crashed Tesla, grabbing their phones and cat (which apparently was in the car when it jumped) and getting into other Teslas that were all at this point clogging up the street. Then they just took off."

He explained the back of his car is banged up and his wheels hit the curb on impact, twisting so much they are no "un-drivable".

To make matters worse, Mr Hook says he had spent thousands on his car just last month when he got a new motor, which depleted his savings.
