Tradie charged after woman killed
A man has been charged with murder after a woman was stabbed to death in front of three teenagers in Melbourne’s east.
Emergency services were called to Cousin Dr in Bayswater shortly after 11am on Saturday after reports of a stabbing.
On arrival, Victoria Police said a 51-year-old woman was found dead in the Cousin Dr home with a man arrested a short time later and taken to hospital.
On Sunday, a police spokeswoman confirmed the man had been charged with murder and was due to appear in the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court.
“A 47-year-old Bayswater man was arrested a short time later at a neighbouring address and taken to hospital under police guard,” she said.
“He has since been charged with one count of murder.”
The accused man has been identified as carpenter Milorad Zaric following a brief court appearance, the Herald Sun reported.
On Saturday, Victoria Police Senior Sergeant Chris Ellway said it would be alleged the man and woman were known to each other.
He described the alleged events as a “tragic set of circumstances” and said it appeared the woman was attacked after answering her door.
According to police three teenagers witnessed the alleged incident — with one teen allegedly received a minor injury.
Mr Zaric will return to court in February.
