Three teens have been arrested after climbing on to a roof at a youth prison in western Sydney, provoking a stand off with police and staff.

NSW Police said officers were called to the Cobham Juvenile Justice Centre on Tuesday afternoon, where the three detainees were walking along the roof smashing windows.

The detainees, aged 15, 17 and 17, were arrested after coming down from the roof and are now back in custody at the facility.

One of the teens was arrested after jumping down into the youth prison's pool.
