Teenager sexually assaulted in Melbourne's east

A teenage girl has been sexually assaulted while walking in a park in Melbourne, Victoria.

The 16-year-old girl was walking along the Main Yarra Trail in Lower Plenty shortly before 12.30pm on Saturday when she noticed a man following closely behind her as she approached a footbridge near the Rosanna golf club.

Police have said the man pushed her to the ground and then pulled down his pants and attempted to sexually assault her. He fled when the victim screamed and was last seen running south along a path off the leafy main trail.

Police have released an image of a man, pictured above, who they want to question about the attack.

The suspect is perceived to be Asian in appearance, aged in his mid 30s, 180cm tall, with a solid build, pale complexion and a wide nose.

He was wearing a dark baseball cap, high neck long sleeved black top, black pants and black gloves.
