Teenager charged with murder of Afghan refugee Hazrat Wali

Detectives investigating the murder of an 18-year-old man in Twickenham have charged a teenager.

The 16-year-old boy from Hammersmith and Fulham was charged on Friday, 15 October with the murder of Afghan refugee Hazrat Wali.

Mr Wali was wounded during a fight on a footbridge before he collapsed on a busy playing field close to his college in Twickenham on Tuesday.

The cricket enthusiast, who lived in Notting Hill, was a student at Richmond upon Thames College and came to the UK in search of a better life two years ago.

Mr Wali’s alleged killer will appear in custody at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, 16 October.

Detectives from the Specialist Crime Command are investigating.
