Teen volunteer firefighter charged with lighting blazes

A teenage volunteer firefighter is accused of deliberately lighting fires in NSW's northwest.

NSW Police say seven fires were deliberately lit around Warrah Creek, south of Tamworth between March 4 and 19, which destroyed up to 1.3 hectares of grassland.

A 19-year-old man was arrested at Warrah Creek early on Monday, taken to Tamworth Police Station and charged with seven counts of intentionally causing a fire and being reckless to its spread.

He was refused bail to appear before Tamworth Local court on Monday.
