Teen sucked into drain at water park 'in dare gone wrong'

A teenager is in a medically induced coma, fighting for his life after he was sucked into a drain at a waterpark.

Caden Strimple, the 14-year-old from Port Bolivar, Texas reportedly lifted up a grate in a pool at the Fun Town Water Park and slipped into an intake pump.

“Even after they turned the pump off, there was still a suction keeping him down,” Sheriff Trochesset told KHOU 11.

Once Caden’s friend realised he could get out, someone shut the pump off. Caden was unconscious when he was pulled out of the water, eventually he came to.

According to Sheriff Trochesset, Caden told his dad he loved him, and apologised for what had happened.

Sheriff Trochesset suggested Caden may have lifted the grate on a dare.

“From my understanding, it might have been on a dare,” he told KTRK.

Caden was able to walk to the ambulance, however Sheriff Trochesset told KHOU11 the 14-year-old had to be put into a medically induced coma, due to the internal injuries he suffered.

A friend of the Strimple family has since set up a fundraiser, to help Caden’s family cover the cost of the “upcoming necessities”.

“I have been a member of the Bolivar community for several years and when tragedy strikes, everyone here comes together,” the family friend said on the Go Fund Me page.

“There will be many trips to and from the hospital, time off and many necessary medical needs for Caden,” she said.

According to the Go Fund Me, Caden will be in a medically induced coma for about two weeks and he will have “more surgeries” in the coming months.

“We have 7 more days until we get an infection diagnosis and we will keep updating,” Mr Strimple said on Facebook.

“His Drs let us know we have a long road to recovery, depending on Caden. We are faced with several surgeries still.

“Right now we focus on the positive and know your support keeps us restored.”

Fun Town Water Park, where the incident happened will hold a fundraiser for Caden on August 26.
