Teen 'hides baby in freezer' after secretly giving birth
A frightened 14-year-old schoolgirl secretly gave birth to a baby boy and killed the child by placing him in her home freezer.
Her family in Russia had not realised she was pregnant, according to reports, and she hid the child because she was too scared to tell her parents.
The girl later admitted to paramedics she froze the baby in the kitchen freezer, but by then it was too late to save him.
Novosibirsk region ombudsman Nadezhda Boltenko told 360TV that the girl's mother had called an ambulance for the schoolgirl.
“She heard her moaning at night and thought her daughter was suffering from appendicitis,” said Boltenko.
The girl “confessed to paramedics she had given birth and hidden the child from the adults in the freezer” at the family home in a village near Novosibirsk city.
The ombudsman called it a “terrible case”.
The girl is now in hospital in a “serious” condition, she said.
One report said the schoolgirl was initially taken to a police station concerning the death of her child in the kitchen freezer.
Anastasia Kuleshova, an official from the Russian Investigative Committee, said “all the circumstances of the infant's death” were being checked by detectives.
The father of the child is also underage, according to reports, and he and the girl had broken up in the summer.
