Teen orphaned after mum killed in crash following dad's tragic death
The 30-year-old mother has been remembered as a "beautiful soul" in the wake of the Melbourne crash.
A Victorian teenager has been orphaned following the death of his "beautiful' mother as her family and friends struggle to come to terms with the latest in a long line of tragedies.
Stacey Singharaj, 30, died following a single vehicle crash in Melbourne's southeast in the early hours of April 1, leaving behind her 14-year-old son Bailey.
Her death comes seven years after Bailey's father Zach tragically lost his life in what was a devastating blow to the mother and her son. Just a year earlier, Stacey's mum Donna, who had an inseparable bond with Bailey, died after developing Motor Neurone Disease in 2010.
Long-time friend of Stacey, Lauren, told Yahoo News Australia the distraught mother had been Bailey's rock in the difficult years that followed the two deaths.
"She was one of the best mums out there. She had a very open and honest relationship with Bailey and supported him through all the tragedies," she said.
"Bailey was really young when all that happened and was there daily watching his grandma deteriorate. It's not something anyone should have to go through let alone a little kid."
Stacey's brother Jordan will now become Bailey's guardian in the family home with Stacey's father Singh, who himself has been receiving treatment for cancer, which had forced Stacey to become the family's main breadwinner.
Tributes flow for 'beautiful soul'
Lauren has set up a GoFundMe page for Stacey's family to help cover the cost of her funeral and for the care of Bailey.
The page has so far raised more than $30,000 for the family, with a wave of tributes left for Stacey who has been remembered as a "beautiful soul".
Taking to Facebook on Saturday, Stacey's cousin Irene said she was "still lost for words".
"It’s killing me inside knowing that I won’t be able to see your beautiful face again. A light from my life has gone. There hasn’t been a day where I’ve stopped thinking about you," she wrote.
Victoria Police confirmed to Yahoo a 30-year-old male has been charged with dangerous driving causing death following the Beaconsfield crash on April 1.
