Unhealthy diet of Pringles and hot chips causes teen to go blind

A teen has gone blind as a result of a diet of Pringles and hot chips.

A 14-year-old from Bristol, in England’s southwest, went to a doctor complaining of tiredness but was otherwise well, according to a report in academic journal Annals of Internal Medicine.

The teen was diagnosed with vitamin B12 deficiency and given supplements, but he did not continue to take them.

The teen also did not change his diet as recommended by his doctors and continued to eat Pringles, hot chips, white bread and sliced ham.

By age 17, he had gone completely blind and suffered some hearing loss.

Dr Denize Atan said the boy had an aversion to certain foods due to their texture and his diet lacked any fruits or vegetables.

The boy, now 19, was diagnosed with nutritional optic neuropathy, when the optic nerve is affected by a lack of proper nutrients.

In the teen’s case it proved irreversible. He’s now unable to drive or properly recognise people’s faces.
