Teen girl's dramatic fight to save dog from being eaten by bird

A teenage girl has been forced to fight off a large bird that she believes was preparing to eat her dog for dinner.

Cecilia Celis, 15, was preparing food inside her Las Vegas home on Friday evening (local time) when she heard barking and crying outside, US news outlet KSNV reported.

She thought her Yorkshire Terrier, Lulu, was playing with the family’s other pooch.

“I just look outside,” Cecilia told KSNV.

“We see a huge bird fly up and I yell at the bird, ‘Get off my dog, get off my dog’.”

CCTV obtained by KSNV shows the bird, believed to be a hawk, with its wings unfolded while Cecilia hits it three times with a pillow to free her dog.

The bird eventually releases the terrier and flies away.

The 15-year-old girl believes the hawk might be somebody’s pet as it had straps around its legs.

It is not known if the bird has returned to its owner.

Lulu is said to be fine with some wounds to her neck.

A Brisbane woman last month was horrified when she found a snake wrapped around her Maltese dog, Tyson.

The python was said to be the thickness of a pool noodle but Tyson was okay.
