Teen drowns at popular Vic swimming spot

A 14-year-old boy has died after going swimming with friends at a popular swimming spot in Melbourne's southwest.

Police say the boy jumped into the Werribee River near River Park Court about 7pm on Tuesday.

A major search was launched when he did not resurface, involving police from the air wing and the search and rescue unit.

The boy's body was found a short time later.

A report is being prepared for the coroner.
