Teen dies after car collides with tree

A teenager has died and three others are injured after the car they were travelling in collided with a tree

Emergency services were called to Lemon Tree Passage Road in Salt Ash just before 11pm on Friday following reports of a single-vehicle crash.

Officers found a white Ford Falcon sedan containing five teenagers aged 14 to 17 years old had left the road and smashed into a tree.

Despite the best efforts of first responders, a 16-year-old boy died on the way to hospital.

A 14-year-old passenger and two 17-year-old passengers sustained non-life threatening injuries in the crash and were taken to John Hunter Hospital.

The 17-year-old driver was subjected to a roadside breath test and allegedly returned a positive result.

He was taken to hospital for mandatory testing.

Police investigations into the crash are continuing, and anyone with relevant information, CCTV or dashcam footage is urged to contact the Crash Investigation Unit or Crime Stoppers.
