Teen who died of suspected overdose ‘knew something was wrong’

Friends of a teenage girl who died in a suspected drug overdose at a Western Sydney music festival said she knew something was wrong.

Nothing could save Alexandra Ross-King, 19, after she was rushed to hospital from FOMO music festival on Saturday.

Her grandmother Denise Koig told The Daily Telegraph the family are shattered, adding Ms Ross-King called her grandma her “best friend”.

“She was the most loving child you could ever want,” she told the paper.

“An absolutely gorgeous child.”

A friend wrote on social media she was in disbelief over Ms Ross-King’s death.

“For a day we all thought would never turn into something so tragic so quickly, did and is something I’ll never forget and is absolutely heartbreaking,” she wrote on Facebook.

“You were always full of life and a genuine person with such a big heart and quite easily one of the funniest people I’ve ever met, you were the life to the party always.”

She added Ms Ross-King will be missed “by way too many people”.

“I’m more than lucky to be one of your many friends and I’ll never forget you,” she wrote.

One young man referred to the teen as his “kindred spirit”.

“My heart is in so much pain and it’s a difficult feeling that I can never have a conversation with you again,” he wrote.

Her friends told Seven News she was in a bad way – they believe it was from a mixture of drugs and extreme heat.

It was 38C on Saturday and more than 11,000 revellers took to Parramatta Park. Police searched 146 attendees and found 54 in possession of drugs.

Of those, 36 were arrested, three were charged for drug supply and 27 were issued court notices for possession.

One man tried to evade police but he was caught a short time later.

While police are waiting for the results of a toxicology report they suspect MDMA might have been the drug which killed Ms Ross-King.

There’s now an investigation to find where the drugs came from and who supplied them.

Issues regarding drugs at music festivals were raised again with Premier Gladys Berejiklian on Sunday.

“Every time a young person’s life is lost to drugs tragically it just tears me to shreds,” Ms Berejiklian said.

“I worry something like pill testing could have the opposite effect.”
