Teen daredevil boasts of train surfing Melbourne's sky rail

A teenage daredevil is under fire for ‘train surfing’ on top of Melbourne’s sky rail and boasting about it.

The 18-year-old, who goes by the name ‘Sylar’, is not only breaking the law, but he is also risking his life.

On the Pakenham line of the sky rail, Sylar filmed himself riding on the back of the train.

“I did it. I did the sky rail,” he says in the video of the stunt.

Sylar is part of a group called “Sky High Idiots” who illegally explore Melbourne.

“To do something for the first time, like do the sky rail first, that was pretty exhilarating,” Sylar told 7 News.

“It was actually surprisingly easy.”

But the teen’s feat has been slammed by rail network officials who warn others not to copy.

“Don’t do stupid things on the railway because the railway is unforgiving. The railway will not give you a second chance,” Metro Trains Director of Operations Ron Bria said.

“We can see people getting on at stations, we can see where they get off and we pass this onto transit police.”

Sylar’s dangerous stunt continued for almost five minutes between Springvale and Yarraman stations, holding onto just the windscreen wiper.

“If the price we have to pay is death, I think that’s a price we are all willing to pay,” he said, adding he did not want to listen to his parents.

“They probably wouldn’t be too happy about it, but you know, it’s our choice. It’s my life.

“I thought I was going to be caught and I was scared of being caught. Probably more scared of being caught than death itself.”

Metro Trains reported train surfing so far this year is down 33 per cent compared with last year.

Despite numerous safety warnings, Sylar and his ‘Sky High Idiots’ have no plans of slowing down.

“Come at us guys,” he said.

“We’re waiting. We’re still going to do it and nothing will stop us.”
