Teen charged after video emerges of autistic boy on knees with gun held to his head
WARNING – DISTRESSING CONTENT: A 17-year-old who allegedly held a gun to a 13-year-old boy’s head during a shocking confrontation captured on video, has been charged after turning himself in.
Alexander Schrader turned himself into police after video showing a 13-year-old boy with autism, named Darren, on his knees being tormented by older boys in Independence, Missouri, FOX 4 KC reports.
The 17-year-old has been charged with one count of first-degree robbery and court documents reportedly allege Schrader was part of the group who confronted the boy on October 20.
Footage allegedly depicts him holding what appears to be a handgun to a kneeling boy’s head, FOX 4 KC reports.
A juvenile who recorded footage of the assault and another who assaulted the 13-year-old have been sent to juvenile detention as the investigation continues.
Victim’s mum horrified by video
The victim’s mother, Emily Bridges, was upset and angry after the shocking video of her son being bullied surfaced.
Ms Bridges told FOX 4 KC she was not sure why her 13-year-old son Darren, who is on the autism spectrum, came home on the weekend with bruises on his face.
But said she was “hurt” and “crying” when her younger son showed a video to her.
According to FOX 4 KC, Darren can be seen kneeling in the distressing footage, while people can be seen shouting at him and demanding he ‘kiss their feet’.
A gun is held next to the 13-year-old’s head, and as he stands up another person is then seen punching him.
Ms Bridges told the news outlet she thinks it is sad other kids think it is okay to treat people like that.
“I don’t want my kids to treat people that way, and I don’t allow them to,” the mother told FOX 4 KC.
